Course Description
Welcome to Graphic Design 1, your introduction to
Graphic Design at Illinois State University. The focus
of this class is on Typography, which can be defined
as the visual component of the written word. Most
designers do not design typefaces, but all designers
use typefaces everyday. Learning how to use type
effectively takes practice but is essential to being a
successful graphic designer. The projects in this course
will challenge you to really think about type and all
its uses. Through careful study and hard work, you will
finish the semester with a whole new skill set that will
begin your journey through the Graphic Design Sequence
at Illinois State.
